Ethics is not something that can be regulated internally, we wanted to make absolutely certain Takumi’s policies were not just documented but challenged. The only way we could do this was by asking for independent support.

Meet our independent ethics committee

  • Veran

    Veran works in the audit department of L&Q supporting the organisation in delivering objectives. He takes a keen interest in issues around business ethics, and he is a member of the Institute of Business Ethics. He advises organisations on their ethical frameworks, building on his broad professional experience, including Head of Internal Audit for a portfolio of large and complex organisations and Director of Counter Fraud & Security Services at TIAA Ltd. Outside of work he is an experienced Board level advisor, including previous experience as Trustee/Director of a local HealthWatch and currently Vice Chair of a maintained school and Trustee of a highly regarded charity.

    Ellie is Co-Founder of The Advisory Collective, a digital consultancy working with businesses, supporting their successful launch and growth strategies as well as digital acceleration projects. A champion for inclusivity, Ellie has sat on the AdTECH London advisory board and is Co-Founder of Digital Leading Ladies which was created as an informal and inclusive group in 2018 and currently comprises 250+ of the most senior and entrepreneurial women in the digital advertising industry. The group aims to open doors for females within the industry, providing speakers for events and contributors to industry opinion pieces. She is currently launching a group for Black women in Media – aiming to increase visibility and opportunities within the sector.

  • Vanessa

    Vanessa helps clients who are using technology and data to innovate or disrupt established ways of doing things. Vanessa focusses almost exclusively on advising VC-backed, high-growth businesses on their scale-up journey on a general counsel-like basis, particularly those who are data-rich and using software as a service/platform/marketplace business models. She has been at the Internet coal face for over 20 years, but for last 5 years focussed on the two biggest growth areas in the space: data platforms and gig/talent platforms. She advises on all aspects of these business models, including structure, contracts, intellectual property, and data protection

  • Julian

    Julian is an independent digital media policy consultant. Julian has worked for Ofcom and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport on social media policy and for the EU toy industry on digital marketing to children. He’s on UNICEF’s working group on GDPR and children’s rights and he’s a member of the Internet Watch Foundation’s Ethics Committee. Until April 2015, he was Senior Adviser, Editorial Policy at the BBC, where he was responsible for editorial policy for the Corporation’s online and interactive services for 15 years. He wrote the BBC’s award-winning Online Guidelines and created the BBC’s policy for all forms of social media including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
